Our Heritage, Our Future
Inspiring community heritage and climate action
Our Heritage, Our Future is a programme to inspire action and support communities to care for their places and heritage through the lens of climate change.
We offer a range of activities and training to help communities explore, record and protect their local heritage and understand the threat that climate change poses to our built, natural and cultural heritage.
Action is being taken by volunteers in communities across Scotland to improve and care for their places. We recognise the value of our places and their heritage and inspire action to look after them.

Our Heritage, Our Future focuses on three main programme delivery areas – Community Heritage Climate Action Plans, Cultural Heritage Skills Training, and a Heritage Eco-Schools Topic.
Community Heritage Climate Action Plans
We support communities to create a bespoke Community Heritage Climate Action Plan through a series of workshops and activities, then continue to support the community as they add to, update and implement the plan over time.
By identifying the heritage buildings, places, traditions and spaces that are important to the community we explore its future opportunities and threats, including the effects of climate change.
Cultural Heritage Skills Training
We work with community groups to help to develop a range of heritage and climate skills.
Our training units have been credit rated by Qualifications Scotland as SCQF level 5/6 and aim to provide people with a general understanding of the heritage sector in Scotland and develop specific heritage-related skills.
Heritage Eco-Schools Topic
We developed a new Heritage topic for Eco-Schools Scotland which aims to guide young people through the impact that climate change is having on our cultural heritage.
We also support schools to learn more about their local heritage through workshops and our skills programme.
Our communities
Explore the communities we have been working with across Scotland to celebrate their built, natural and cultural heritage.
