My Story, Our Future
The My Story, Our Future project was formed as a partnership between Keep Scotland Beautiful, the University of Glasgow and ESOL Scotland. Over the course of several months, Glasgow residents with experience of migration explored how heritage and storytelling can help migrants to imagine secure futures.
After visiting heritage sites across the city, researching different forms of heritage and practising digital media skills, the MSOF group worked with Glasgow Film School to produce a short film, 'Different Backgrounds and Memories'. The film premiered at a sold-out event as part of Refugee Festival Scotland in June 2026.
For their work on the film, participants were awarded Heritage Hero awards and the Sharing Heritage Stories Cultural Heritage Skills Training unit.
We’ve enjoyed the collaboration between everyone involved: the participants, the workshop leaders, and the venues we’ve visited throughout the year. The project fostered a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for the participants to explore ideas around storytelling and gave them an opportunity to learn the skills they wanted. Many of them are now joining another film-making project! A big thank you to Keep Scotland Beautiful, and University of Glasgow for funding projects like these.

Almost 30 people from countries across the world attended a workshop to celebrate the power of storytelling and share the outcomes of the My Story, Our Future project as part of a three-day in-person exchange event organised and hosted by UNESCO RIELA.
