Save Our Water
🌿What was your favourite part of creating your garden?
We really enjoyed growing our plants from seed to seedling and seeing them develop-especially when the days grew longer. We had great help and support from Wendy Mayne, who had supported us last year too. Her expertise and support was terrific and it has been great for the pupils to work with someone so knowledgeable.
🌿Did you face any challenges and how did you respond to them?
The greatest challenge was how to make a small water feature with two halves-we looked all around the school and homes and tried various items in school-trying make the semi circular shape was tricky. In the end, we had two A3 plastic wallets in class which had broken ziplocks and with glue and scissors, we managed to stick them together and cut them into a suitable shape.
🌿What did you learn whilst creating your garden?
We learned how to make a no dig garden, laying cardboard directly onto grass.
🌿Did you have any links with your local community or a Pocket Garden mentor whilst creating your garden?
Wendy Mayne, who had been recommended to us last year, had offered to help us again this year. Once we were notified of which design was chosen as the winner, Wendy came and we started planting seeds. We had over a hundred pots to tend and her help was invaluable.
🌿What will happen to your garden after the competition has finished?
It's our school sports' day in the middle of June so we hope that parents and friends of the pupils can take the plants and make a donation to our Eco fund in return.
