Climate Action Week 2025

Climate Action Week 2025

Timed with the Scottish Government’s Climate Week, this year's Climate Action Week follows the story of human induced climate change from past to present, with opportunities for collective action to create hope for the future.

Our Live Lesson programme is funded by the Scottish Government, with thanks to Scottish Power for sponsoring the author and prizes for this year's lessons.

Challenge for the week: Collective Climate Action

This year we invite schools and nurseries from across the country to work together to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Choose from a range of actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and track emissions savings. The competition part of this activity has now closed, but you can still take part and reduce your greenhouse gas emissions.

Only by working together can we have the biggest impact!

Early Years - P3

Author and storyteller Allison Galbraith shares a story inspired by an Inuit folk tale of how the sun was stolen and had to be rescued by animals. But which animal was best equipped to be the rescuer? This fun, interactive story time session will help listeners understand the importance of the sun and it's significance in climate action.

Climate Action Week 2025 EY-P3 Live Lesson

Following the lesson, children are invited to take part in a week of activities, supporting learning and action on climate change. You can take part in all the activities, or pick and choose to suit your setting.

Activity 1: Understanding climate change: help children understand the basics of climate change using our social script, followed by our home learning activity to get families involved. Download Resource.

Activity 2: Wind and solar power: try our STEM outdoor learning activity as a fun way to learn about renewable energy sources. Download Resource.

Activity 3: Share your thoughts: we want to hear how children think we should be looking after our planet. We invite children to express their thoughts on this topic and we will share them with the Scottish Government ahead of COP30 in Brazil in November. Download Resource.

P4 - S2

In this year's Live Lesson we tell the story of human induced climate change by time travelling into the past. Speeding through 200 years of history, we arrive at the present day to find out where we are now, what is going well and what more needs to be done to create a sustainable future for everyone.

Climate Action Week 2025 P4-S2 Live Lesson

Following the lesson, pupils are invited to take part in a week of activities, supporting learning and action on climate change. You can take part in all the activities, or pick and choose to suit your setting.

Activity 1: Climate change myth busting: take our myth busting quiz to see what you really know about climate change and the state of the world currently. Take the myth busting quiz home and test it on your teachers too. Share your results at our assembly on 30 September to see how different schools across the country compare. Download Resource.

Activity 2: Wind and solar power: try our STEM outdoor learning activity to learn how we can harness the power of the wind and the sun to create renewable energy. Download Resource.

Activity 3: Share your thoughts: we want to hear what young people think about climate change and what we should be doing about it. We invite pupils to share their thoughts on this topic in a format of their choosing,  and we will share them with the Scottish Government ahead of COP30 in Brazil in November. Download Resource.

Pre-recorded lesson for high schools

If timetabling restrictions prevent you from joining Climate Action Week live, you can access a pre-recorded lesson here.

During this pre-recorded lesson we will travel back in time to tell the story of climate change over the past 200 years. Back in the present, we look at what is going well and what needs to be done to build a sustainable future.
