Climate Action Month 2026
This year we want you to get involved in Climate Action for the whole of September, with lessons and activities taking part throughout the month and our assembly timed with the Scottish Government’s Climate Week.
All lessons are curricular linked with follow up resources to take learning further.
Our Live Lesson programme is funded by the Scottish Government.
As our Live Lessons are recorded and distributed online, cameras and microphones will be disabled for attendees. Due to this, our lessons require facilitation by educators within the classroom to ensure pupils can take part in our interactive activities.
Our lessons support the Curriculum, Campus, Community and Culture aspects of the Target 2030 Learning for Sustainability Action Plan as well as Global Citizenship and Meta Skills.

Timings for lessons are as follows:
Climate Action Month Challenge Launch: Tuesday 1 September 11.00-11.15am
P4-S2 Lesson in English: Tuesday 8 September 11.00-11.40am

Collective Climate Action Challenge
As part of Climate Action Month, we invite schools and nurseries from across the country to work together to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Throughout September, choose from a range of actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and track your emissions savings. Download the challenge resource watch the video of our challenge launch to find out what you need to do.
Prize draw: Send us your points total by 9.30am on Tuesday 29 September to enter our prize draw. Five winners will receive a £60 animal adoption pack. Thank you to Urban Fox for providing sponsorship for the prizes for this prize draw.
All settings that submit their points total will be named in our Climate Action Month Assembly on 29 September and receive a free resource to make an upcycled 'I'm a climate activist' wrist band.
Only by working together can we have the biggest impact!
Early Years - P3: I Love My Bike
Author and poet Simon Mole shares his book 'I Love My Bike', all about the thrill of learning a new skill and how we can overcome setbacks along the way.
We are grateful to Urban Fox for providing sponsorship for the author for this lesson.
Following the lesson, use our sensory walk treasure hunt to make active travel fun and encourage everyone to take part.
We also recommend the 'My Climate Week' resources developed by the Children's Parliament in collaboration with children, which support children to create and lead their own climate activities.
Don't forget to use your active travel journeys to count towards your Climate Action Month Collective Challenge points total!
P4 - S2: Transport and Climate Action
Did you know that the biggest source of greenhouse gases in Scotland is transport? In this lesson we will explore the problems with fossil fuel powered transport, including climate change, air pollution and noise and look at how we can travel more sustainably (and enjoyably), no matter where we live or where our school is.
Following the lesson, investigate a barrier to active travel in your local area and create a campaign video to tackle it.
To learn more about improving air quality, we recommend Urban ReLeaf Dundee's 'What are we Breathing?' resource for schools. Please note that the QR code on the back page is only accessible for schools in Dundee.
We also recommend the 'My Climate Week' resources developed by the Children's Parliament in collaboration with children, which support children to create and lead their own climate activities.

High Schools and P7s: Transport Q&A
Join us for a Q&A with Rosie Leslie, a senior policy advisor from Transport Scotland, working in the Climate Change and Just Transition team and Stephen Rennie, who works for UrbanFox to install on street electric car chargers in Scotland. Rosie and Stephen will be online to answer all your questions about climate action and sustainable transport, including what the government is doing to reduce transport emissions and how you can help.
If you are not able to attend the lesson live, you can submit your questions in advance using our online form.
Following the lesson, use our Young Reporters for the Environment resource to design a video campaign to increase active travel in your local area.

Assembly
Assembly revisiting what we learned during Climate Action Month, a quiz on climate action and the results of our Collective Climate Action challenge, including prize winners!
Don't forget to submit you Climate Action Collective Challenge points total before the assembly so that they count towards our national total. The names of all schools and nurseries who submit their points will be read out during the assembly.
Live Lessons and Eco-Schools
Don't forget that taking part in any of our Live Lessons and the associated activities can be counted towards an Eco-Schools Scotland Green Flag Award.
