🌿What was your favourite part of creating your garden?
Our favourite part of creating our pocket garden was planting all the plants from seed and watching them grow into a beautiful garden. We also enjoyed writing a poem that linked to this years theme water and the number 10. The STEM elements, the water wheel, the bridge and the little boat, were all fun to create.
🌿Did you face any challenges and how did you respond to them?
The challenges we faced when creating our pocket garden was how to successfully make a water wheel. With lots of research, we overcame these challenges to create our final water wheel using recycled materials.
🌿What did you learn whilst creating your garden?
We learnt so much when creating our pocket garden. We learnt about different plants and which plants would attract certain insects. We also learnt how to grow food from seeds and how to successfully transfer our plants from small pots to garden. We also developed our team working and problem solving skills.
🌿Did you have any links with your local community or a Pocket Garden mentor whilst creating your garden?
We were fortunate that we had lots of wonderful plant donations from the families within our school community. We were also able to benefit from kind donations from staff members and learn from their gardening expertise.
🌿What will happen to your garden after the competition has finished?
We are currently located at a host school this academic year, therefore once the competition is over, we are going to harvest the food we have grown and leave our pocket garden in the school allotment of our host school as a lasting memory of our time spent together.
