2026 Young Reporters for the Environment winners announced
15 June 2026
Young people across Scotland have been celebrated in a national environmental journalism competition.
The Young Reporters for the Environment competition, which we deliver in Scotland on behalf of the Foundation for Environmental Education, gives young people aged between eight and 25 an opportunity to speak on environmental issues through writing, photography, podcasting or video.
Young Reporters for the Environment has been sponsored by HP, who were also involved in the judging, for the second year in a row.
The winners were presented with certificates and trophies at an awards ceremony kindly hosted by DC Thomson at its headquarters in Dundee – the home of jute, jam and journalism - on Tuesday 9 June.
Catriona Rae, Senior Education and Learning Officer at Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “This year we had a fantastic range of entries once again and the standard was extremely high.
“Every entrant clearly demonstrated care and passion for our environment, and their submissions were highly commended by the Keep Scotland Beautiful team who voted for their favourites.
“A huge congratulations to all of our winners, and to everyone who submitted a piece this year. We’re now in our third decade of Young Reporters for the Environment and it’s amazing to see such wonderful entries once again.”
This year’s entries from the One Take Photo category will be used in a Keep Scotland Beautiful calendar, sponsored by HP, which will be presented to winners and on sale later this year.
The winners are:
- One Take Photo - 10 and Under: Camille Adam
- One Take Photo - 11 to 14: Michael Murdoch

Steph Johnstone, HP Sustainability Lead for the Scottish Public Sector, said: "Being involved in judging some of the submissions highlighted just how effectively young people are using technology to raise awareness of both local and global environmental issues. Each piece demonstrated the passion and creativity behind their work. It also highlighted the important role young voices play in driving positive change, while also building skills for the future.
"It was great to attend the Young Reporters for the Environment awards ceremony in Dundee this year and meet the individuals behind the submissions. Hearing directly from them added another dimension to their work and made the experience even more impactful.
"Congratulations to all the winners and entrants this year."
DC Thomson will also be publishing the winning articles and photographs from this year’s competition.
Katy Tallon, Head of Sustainability at DC Thomson: "DC Thomson is incredibly proud to host the Young Reporters for the Environment Award and celebrate young people using talent to drive change for our planet.
