We sign up to the Volunteering and Citizen Science Framework

30 July 2026

Nature enhances our wellbeing, makes us feel good and underpins a healthy world so we know that protecting it is essential.  And through our work we value the contribution that volunteers across Scotland make to restore nature and biodiversity in their communities.

This is why, we are pleased to sign up to the Volunteering and Citizen Science Framework which Nature Scot has published as part of the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy (SBS) Delivery Plan 2024/2030.

Katie O'Donnell, our Communities Manager commented, "Restoring nature and biodiversity is a core objective in our strategy.

"Given the scale of the volunteers and wider  members of the Climate and Nature Friendly Communities Network who give their time to improve the places they love we see the real value that communities and individuals bring to restoring nature and biodiversity.  We think it is important that their efforts are recognised as contributing to the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy."

We involve and support volunteers across a range of our activities, projects and campaigns, most notably through our work with the Climate and Nature Friendly Communities Network that champions community gardening.

But restoring and protecting nature is also at the heart of other areas of our work, including the Garden for Life Forum, tackling litter and waste to prevent it impacting nature, our nature and biodiversity accredited training for adults and in schools and Pocket Garden competition.

We couldn’t keep Scotland beautiful and inspire such a breadth of positive action without the work that our wonderful volunteers do.
