Dundee Business Improvement District invests in improving quality of city
10 September 2026
We've been commissioned by the new Dundee Business Improvement District (BID) to carry out audits of local environmental quality during September 2026.
The audits, designed to measure litter, flyposting, graffiti, bins, vacant sites and other quality indicators affecting the appearance of the BID area will also record behavioural observations. The results will capture the condition of streets and associated factors and provide baseline data to measure success of any future activities to improve the area.
Louise A Fraser, Interim Director of Dundee BID, said: “The cleanliness and appearance of the city centre was flagged as a key concern of our business community during the ballot consultation, and is an issue we want to understand and address. We’ve commissioned Keep Scotland Beautiful to carry out an independent audit of the BID area to provide us with an evidence-led baseline report on the local environmental quality of the city. This will help us to clearly set out areas requiring more effort and provide recommendations on current efforts we can build on, and add value to, with key stakeholders, driving improvements to ensure that Dundee is an outstanding destination for shopping, work, tourism, and entertainment for both locals and visitors alike.
Brian Rae, our Environment & Place Services Manager, said: “The data we’ll gather for Dundee BID will help to prioritise actions ensuring the city centre area is as clean and welcoming as possible for all. We know that good quality spaces are good for people and businesses, but in order to prioritise investment the challenges need to be understood and measured. Our audits use up-to-date technologies for collection, analysis and reporting of data. Once the data is collected clear action plans for improvements can be developed.”
Following the audits a report will highlight key areas for improvement alongside recommendations which the BID will use to develop an action plan, along with key partners, aimed at improving specific areas and addressing issues of concern.
