First step towards Certificate in Cultural Heritage for Glasgow community group
22 October 2026
Members of Springburn Winter Gardens Trust, alongside the local Springburn community, have recently taken their first steps towards a Certificate in Cultural Heritage.
Participants have been undertaking our Cultural Heritage Skills Award units, recently completing Sharing Heritage Stories, a mandatory unit for achieving the certificate, with the first cohort recently receiving the award.
The certificate is part of the Our Heritage, Our Future programme which inspires action and supports communities to care for their places and heritage through the lens of climate change.
Following completion of this unit, which involved candidates presenting the gardens’ history in a range of innovative ways, including a prototype digital tablet display and interpretation panels, they now have the opportunity to complete three further additional units to receive their full certificate.
Furthermore, the participants are also receiving Archaeology Scotland Heritage Hero awards to recognise their achievement in celebrating local heritage and joining efforts towards its preservation.
Helena Fox, Our Heritage, Our Future Project Officer, said: “It’s wonderful to see the Springburn Winter Gardens Trust receive their first awards following the competition of this unit.
“Thanks to the group’s hard work in researching heritage themes and understanding how to share their findings for other audiences, they are now in a much stronger place to discuss their heritage and explore ways to protect and care for the Gardens against the threat of climate change.
“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part and to the Springburn Unity Network for hosting us. I’m really looking forward to working with the group again to continue their heritage journey.”
