#SpringCleanScotland starts with a bang

28 March 2025

The first week of this year's #SpringCleanScotland is almost over and what a first week it's been.

Barely one week into this year and we already have almost 20,000 people registering more than 800 events.

Since the beginning of the campaign we've been out and about at different events across the country to support some of the brilliant groups making a real difference in their communities and collectively gathered almost 300 bags of litter!

On launch day we were in Glasgow with the British Deaf Association and also in Inverclyde with Green Tangerine. In Glasgow we collected 12 bags of litter and in Inverclyde we collected a whopping 68 bags!

The following day our Chief Executive Barry Fisher organised a litter pick in his village of St Fillans where more than 20 volunteers took part.

We ended the launch weekend with a trip to Killiecrankie to support the Killiecrankie, Tummel and Fincastle Community Council with their event where we gathered more than 15 bags of litter.

On the same day we were in Grangemouth where we were supporting Let's Get Grangemouth Clean gLitter Team, one of our Climate and Nature Friendly Community Network groups, and collectively we picked up 90 bags of litter.

Finally, we were back in Glasgow to take part in a litter pick with Wheatley Homes. Again, thanks to more than 40 staff, volunteers and pupils from Ibrox Primary School, we collected 90 bags of litter.

We also managed to squeeze in a litter pick along the River Forth in Stirling and around the Castle Business Park and the streets of Raploch alongside our office hub neighbours SEPA and Robertson Group in Stirling.

We've certainly had our fair share of strange finds over the litter picks, including - but not limited to - a shopping trolley, a Peppa Pig toy, a catheter tube, a kitchen sink and a mattress.

Barry Fisher, our Chief Executive, said: "As with every year we are blown away by the tremendous support shown to #SpringCleanScotland by volunteers, communities and businesses across the country.

"One week into this year's campaign and we have saw a massive collective effort with people all over Scotland rolling up their sleeves and getting involved, and that's just the events we know about.

"I'm looking forward to hearing about more fantastic events, the strange finds and the tremendous effort to clean up Scotland."

#SpringCleanScotland runs until 21 April. Get involved now.
