Green Key success for Glasgow and Edinburgh establishments
10 April 2025
Hotels in Glasgow and Edinburgh have achieved a Green Key certificate for their commitment to environmental excellence.
Following audits by our Green Key jury we are delighted to see Sandman Signature Glasgow Hotel and Mount Royal Hotel in Edinburgh received their certificates.
Kimpton Blythswood Square Hotel in Glasgow has also successfully met the Green Key criteria for the second year.
Earlier this year we added 17 recipients to our list and these two new establishments takes us to 43.
Jamie Ormiston, our Training and Accreditation Coordinator, said: “It really is fantastic to see not only two new establishments joining our prestigious group but to also have one returning for a second year, showing a true dedication to responsible tourism.
“Scotland is such a wonderful country for people to visit and it’s inspiring to see more hotels and tourism establishments achieve their Green Key certification and offer people a place to stay during their trip knowing it is sustainable and environmentally friendly.
“We currently have more than 40 establishments with the certificate and we’d love for more to join this list. Please get in touch and together we can start your sustainability journey.”
Through Green Key we offer a comprehensive in-person audit of premises and additional support to help tourism establishments achieve year-on-year environmental improvements and reduce climate-change-causing greenhouse gas emissions. From energy use in hotel rooms and laundry, to food waste in kitchens, to how employees work day-to-day are all areas they offer advice on through the audit process.
The Green Key audit also provides an ideal opportunity to access advice on how to make financial savings, such as through more efficient use of energy and resources - vital with the current high level of operating costs.
Green Key is open to a wide range of establishments including hotels, visitor attractions, conference centres, campsites and restaurants and helps them meet global environmental standards recognised by UN Tourism.
