World Toilet Day Live Lesson

World Toilet Day Live Lesson

We all use a toilet every day, but how much do we know about what happens to what we flush away and how this impacts our environment?

As part of World Toilet Day, join us for a fun, interactive lesson exploring all things toilet related.  This lesson is ideal for classes looking to explore Learning for Sustainability in a new way and schools working on the Water Topic for their Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.

The lesson will be followed by curricular linked resources to help take learning further, including a challenge to pupils to design their own toilet!

With thanks to Scottish Water for their support in developing this lesson.

Live Lesson (recommended for P4-S2): 1.30-2.00pm Wednesday 19 November 2025

Lesson

As part of World Toilet Day, we're focusing on all things toilet! We look at different types of toilet from around the world, investigate what happens when we flush and find out how many people don't have access to safe, clean toilets. We use this information to work out how we can make toilets more environmentally friendly and how we can make sure everyone can go when they need.

Following the lesson, we have two exciting challenges for you to take part in:

Activity 1: Design your own toilet: we challenge you to combine maths and creativity to design a toilet of the future that uses as little water as possible. (Resource will be added here soon)

Activity 2: Support Water Aid: Water Aid is an amazing charity that wants everyone in the world to have access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. Find out more about what Water Aid is doing for World Toilet Day and get involved in fundraising to support them: Visit Water Aid's World Toilet Day activities page.

Want to learn more?

Scottish Water have published a series of curricular linked education resources to help you learn more about water as a precious resource and how we can best look after it, including their fantastic Generation H2O programme.
