Podcast

Podcast

Podcasts are mini documentaries about an environmental issue or a project being done in your community or school.  They are based on news, events, or history and can be audio only or video.

Learning to podcast strengthens media and communication skills and allows young people to connect with people affected by environmental issues in their community as well as with people who have in-depth environmental knowledge.

There are four different formats your podcast might take:

Solo Podcast

In a Solo Podcast a single host delivers the content, which offers a flexible format for time management but requires strong storytelling skills to keep the audience engaged.

Multi-Host Podcast

A Multi-Host Podcast is a discussion between two or more Young Reporters or experts to offer contrasting viewpoints or create a conversation about an issue.

Interview Podcast

An Interview Podcast features interviews with experts, activists, or community members affected by environmental issues or participating in a featured project.

Narrative Podcast

A Narrative Podcast is a documentary storytelling style podcast told by a narrator. This can be non-fictional or fictional.

No matter what format your Podcast takes, there are some criteria to follow:

Criteria

  • Identify a relevant and feasible solution to an environmental issue.
  • Your Podcast should have a title of no more than 140 characters.
  • Any quotes, facts, or statistics must be from real and credible sources and cited in a bibliography.
  • 70% of the podcast should be pupils’ original audio. If external audio is used (music, sound effects, soundbites), the source must be cited in a bibliography.
  • Your podcast should be a fair and truthful representation of reality, and the sound or recording should not be altered.
  • Send a 5 minute clip of your Podcast as your entry, along with a link to the full edition if possible.
  • AI is not permitted in this category.
