Trees for Change Challenge
Developing pupil voice through a practical Learning for Sustainability Challenge.
Support your pupils in exploring and learning about the benefits of urban trees through the lens of a real tree planting initiative taking place in your area.
Keep Scotland Beautiful has partnered with Clyde Climate Forest (CCF) and Trees for Cities to bring the Trees for Change Challenge to schools and youth groups throughout the Glasgow City Region.
CCF aim to plant 18 million trees across eight local authorities: East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, Glasgow, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire. To support this goal, schools and youth groups from these councils are invited to take part in the Trees for Change Challenge.
With programmes designed for Primary, Secondary, and Youth Group settings, this Challenge provides an entry point for discussions on environmental and social issues through the topic of urban trees. The accompanying resources provide a structured, ready-to-use framework that allows teachers to deliver meaningful, area-specific Learning for Sustainability. The Challenge empowers learners to use their voice, share their ideas and advocate for positive change in their local environment.
Designed for upper Primary, this educational package provides a series of three video lessons that build knowledge and outdoor learning activities to consolidate understanding.
The primary resource includes:
- Three video lessons.
- One pupil workbook.
- One teacher guide.
Designed for secondary classes, this adaptable research task explores the social and environmental impact of urban trees through project-based learning.
The secondary resources include:
- Four video lessons.
- One pupil workbook.
- One teacher guide.

As part of Trees for Change Challenge, our education team will be delivering free in-person workshops in schools during October to December. This will be limited to 10 schools. Please tell us below if you would like us to visit your school.
Clyde Climate Forest will be carrying out tree planting days across the region in the upcoming months. The locations are yet to be confirmed but if you would like your class to be involved in one of these sessions, subject to dates and location being suitable, please let us know.
Clyde Climate Forest would like to know if you are interested in any future opportunities to plant either young trees or fruit trees in your school grounds.
Please tell us about your interest in any of these opportunities using the form below.
