🌿What was your favourite part of creating your garden?

Our favourite part of creating our garden was seeing the progress. From planting seeds, caring for them and watching them grow to the excitement of adding another new part to the garden. We loved collecting stones from around the school, painting them for our stone river and seeing how they looked when we eventually placed them in the garden. Another favourite was digging! Digging soil from other areas to make the base, digging in compost to plant seeds and digging big holes to replant our plants. We love digging!

🌿Did you face any challenges and how did you respond to them?

Creating our tyre waterfall into a pond was definitely our biggest challenge, but with help from a local joiner, we were able to problem solve and find a way to make it work. Instead of using an overflow from the water butt as originally planned, we now collect runoff water from the shed roof, which flows down the waterfall to fill our pond.

🌿What did you learn whilst creating your garden?

The whole process - from designing and building to caring for our garden - has given us many opportunities to talk about why water is important. We have learned why plants are important both as food for people and insects, and that water is essential for them to grow. Water = Life

🌿Did you have any links with your local community or a Pocket Garden mentor whilst creating your garden?

We would like to thank Heathhall Garden Centre for the kind donation of peat free compost and plants for our garden. We would also like to thank Hiddleston Joiners for time and materials to help bring our garden design to life.

🌿What will happen to your garden after the competition has finished?

The area we used for our pocket garden was previously unused and unsafe, so the transformation has been fantastic for our school. We intend to continue caring for the garden and hope to expand the growing area so we can grow more food for our school community.
