Preparing for heritage volunteering

This unit is designed to prepare the learners to participate in volunteering activity. Learners will carry out pre-activity research to determine what to expect when volunteering and typical roles and responsibilities of a volunteer. They will then participate in an activity, risk assess the activity and evaluate performance. Learners will identify future skills development and volunteering opportunities.

Members of Clackmannanshire Economic Regeneration Trust in Alloa have undertaken the Preparing for heritage volunteering unit and completed their training with a volunteering session at The Japanese Garden at Cowden.

Preparing for heritage volunteering is one of the units candidates can complete to achieve a new Certificate in Cultural Heritage, credit rated by Qualifications Scotland, as part of the Our Heritage, Our Future programme.  The aim of the qualification is to support people to understand the importance of our built, natural and cultural heritage in Scotland, develop specific heritage-related skills and celebrate success of all candidates.
