Creating and conducting guided tours

Creating and conducting guided tours

This unit is designed to prepare the learner to deliver guided tours in a range of settings including indoor and outdoor heritage sites. Tour locations are restricted to areas within 30 minutes of emergency responders. Learners will carry out historical research, plan a route, risk assess the route, explore the area, create content, deliver a 2-stop guided walk, take measures to ensure the safety and maintain the interest of walk participants, and reflect on their performance.

Creating Guided Tours Training

Find out about the Creating Guided Tours training that the Our Heritage ,Our Future team can provide for your community group.

Volunteers and staff from Healthy and Active in East Kilbride completed  guided tour training. As a result, they have connected with other local heritage groups, gained a qualification and, most importantly, learnt more about their community and environment. The team also gained Heritage Hero Awards from Archaeology Scotland for the work they completed with us.

Heritage Hero Awards

Candidates from the Make Your Way project, part of Community Action Lanarkshire, completed their Creating and conducting guided tours training and assessment. They planned and conducted their tours around the town centre and focussed on local landmarks, such as, Strathaven Castle and the Town Mill Arts and Heritage Centre.
