Heritage and climate skills
"The historic environment is one of our most precious assets. It contributes to our economy, to our cultural identity and to our sense of place. Without it, Scotland wouldn’t be Scotland.
Our historic environment supports more than 60,000 jobs – 2.5% of Scotland’s total employment. It contributes £2.3 billion to the national gross value added (GVA). There is tourism, obviously, but also jobs and work for local businesses in its care and restoration." - Historic Environment Scotland.
The Our Heritage, Our Future team know how important Scotland's heritage is on a national scale and that it is even more important than ever to support community groups to explore, record and protect their heritage at a local level.
Heritage and climate skills training
We can work with your community group to help to develop a range of heritage and climate skills such as Creating guided tours, Recording the heritage environment, Creating exhibitions and displays and Sharing heritage stories. Through these activities you can work towards obtaining formal accreditation or get involved just for fun! Take a look at the heritage and climate skills training we provide below.
Who is it for?
Community groups with an interest in exploring, recording and protecting the heritage of their local area. Your group doesn’t have to have an existing heritage focus to take part.
What does it involve?
Start by sending a paragraph detailing the need for heritage training for your community group to communities@keepscotlandbeautiful.org. We will review and get in touch to discuss if our training is right for you.
This is a completely FREE service, made possible by Historic Environment Scotland and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to The National Lottery players.
We offer a range of heritage services, which can form part of your Community Heritage Climate Action Plan and engage your wider community. Our full menu of heritage services can be found on the Our Heritage, Our Future web page.
