Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust
Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust
The Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust (FCCT) formed in 2021 by combining Re-Union Canal Boats and Fountainbridge Canalside Initiative.
The Trust works with others to create and manage new projects. It supports and strengthens opportunities for economic, environmental and cultural activity that benefit the community, and promotes social inclusion, sustainability and well-being. Activities include volunteering, Canalside Greenspace Group, health walks, community events and heritage projects.
The Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust was the first organisation to complete the Community Heritage and Climate Action Plan (CHCAP) process with us in 2024. Across a series of workshops, we discussed the heritage which was valued within the community; shared stories; and explored the impacts of climate change on heritage. The 200-year-old Union Canal, which runs through the area, was identified as a focal point of Fountainbridge’s heritage.
Utilising the Place Standard Tool: Your Historic Place lens, the community thought about what they like about their place and the opportunities they see to combat climate change and protect the heritage they value. FCCT is now working with a wide range of stakeholders identified in the plan to begin to deliver the actions in their plan.
