Classrooms in East Renfrewshire, North Ayrshire and Dundee get climate ready
30 September 2026
As part of our month of Climate Action culminating in an assembly to celebrate achievements hosted at Alva Primary School, Clackmannanshire, as part of #ScotClimateWeek we’ve been delivering our Climate Ready Classrooms Programme across the country.
Climate Ready Classrooms is designed to help young people navigate the science behind climate change and reduce their carbon footprint through a series of workshops and activities.
We worked with local authorities in North Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire and Dundee to engage 1,246 children from primary schools and deliver a mixture of online and in person lessons.
In North Ayrshire we worked with 147 pupils from eight classes from six different schools, in East Renfrewshire 902 pupils joined in from 35 classes across nine schools, and in Fife 197 pupils from nine classes representing seven schools participated.
“The children particularly enjoyed the scavenger hunt, learning outdoors, the experiment and the fact we were doing something different.”
Fairlie Primary School.
As a result of the workshops the pupils and schools plan to take a series of actions forward including:
- Reducing car idling outside their school.
- Adding grass to their playground.
- Starting a campaign to encourage more people to walk to school / introducing a ‘walk to school Wednesday’.
- Planting more trees and wild flowers in school grounds.
- Having more plant based food options on their school menu and introducing food waste monitors.
- Creating a charging slot timetable for devices to ensure they are not plugged in overnight.
“Fun activities and good learning sessions alongside great, engaging tasks that the pupils enjoyed.”
St. Cadoc’s Primary School.
“This was a great workshop! My class engaged well with each activity and these really supported their understanding of Climate Change. I liked how the workshops were kept short but with a high quality of discussion and learning.”
Dalgety Bay Primary School
