Roadside litter art competition winners announced

06 July 2026

The winners of our roadside litter art competition have received banners with their artwork as their prize.

Our competition called for nursery children and primary school pupils to design a poster to encourage people in their community to stop littering our roadsides and Give Your Litter a Lift.

After an incredible response and a tough time deliberating, we finally settled upon two winning designs. The winners are:

  • Nursery - P3: LL, Corpus Christi Primary School (Glasgow)
  • P4 - P7: Eilidh H, Doonfoot Primary School (South Ayrshire)

Both winners have now had their designs made into physical banners.

Carly Ramsay, our Campaigns and Interventions Officer, said: "Roadside litter is not a new problem, but its impact continues to increase: almost 90% think it's a problem, rising from 69% in 2016.

"As part of our roadside litter campaign we wanted to give young people the opportunity to have their say and encourage people in their community not to drop litter on our roads.

"The winning banners are our two favourite designs, but what we're most pleased with is the volume of entries and the enthusiasm for our competition from young people all over Scotland.

"Roadside litter damages our environment, harms our wildlife, has a huge burden on the public purse and is dangerous to clean up; it's time we put it firmly behind us."

Eilidh said: "I enjoyed drawing for the competition, and it was exciting to see my poster sharing an important message."

Our efforts to tackle roadside litter are part of our commitment to supporting the Scottish Government’s National Litter and Flytipping Strategy.
