On the look out for community case studies on litter action
28 November 2024
Members of Scotland’s Litter and Flytipping Strategy Community Reference Group joined together on 28 November for the last meeting of the calendar year.
We are now supporting the Year 2 Action Plan and the Community Reference Group including members from community groups and local authorities are supporting our work as we move forward.
The group members are contributing their expertise on how we communicate and share resources with people in particular around the
- Community Litter Hub – an online resource sharing hub created to support and empower people to take action on litter. We are developing case studies to add to the hub, and called on members to support this and share widely. We also heard that it would be useful to include tag words to enable better searches.
- Citizen science support and recruitment – encouraging more action and recruiting more people was discussed, and we tested how proposed messages resonated with the group so we can increase engagement and support through our communications channels.
- Education programme – We outlined the training and workshops we have been running across Scotland in the past couple of months and offered to set up sessions for groups across Scotland.
Heather McLaughlin, our Campaigns and Social Innovation Manager, said: “I’d like to thank the members of the Community Reference Group for their invaluable expertise and insight. We’re building on the success of the Community Litter Hub and the education programme, which we hope to roll out further in 2025, to further support people to understand more about litter and where to find resources and support to help them take action. The views of the group are so important to help us reach new audiences with the right messages.
"We are now looking to add more case studies to the Community Litter Hub so everyone can learn from each other and see successful ways of tackling litter. So, if you have an example of how you've worked to tackle litter, we would love to have this as a case study! Similarly, if you know of someone or a group with a good example, please do forward over the information to NLFS@keepscotlandbeautiful.org."
We're committed to collaborating with partners to drive implementation of the Strategy Action plan in an effort to make Scotland clean, green and sustainable.
