Always remember when working on any part of Eco-Schools to not only think about what you are doing but why you are doing it. What is the purpose?
So why do you need an Eco-Code? Your Eco-Code is a mission statement to represent your environmental values. It is a culmination of all you have learned on your Eco-Schools journey and the message or messages you want to communicate.
You can get your whole school involved in writing your Eco-Code, so it's a great way to include everyone in your Eco-Schools activities. Your Eco-Code will help you share your vision with your whole school and your local community. You can even share your Eco-Code on social media to share it internationally.
So now you know what an Eco-Code is, let's look at some examples of what it could look like.
Your Eco-Code could be a statement of your eco principles like these from Banchory Primary and Busby Primary.
It could be an acrostic like these from Castleview and Craighill.
It could be a poem or song like these from Port of Monteith, Morningside and Shaw Mhor. You can even record yourself singing your Eco-Code and share it with your community.
Your Eco-Code can also be an image or use symbols like these from Dunbeath and Middlefield.
Your Eco-Code is your mission statement and overall vision based on your Eco-Schools activities. This is your opportunity to get creative, so think about how you want to share your vision and have fun bringing it to life.
You can reuse an Eco-Code from a previous Green Flag Award if you think it is still relevant. You could keep it the same or involve the rest of your school in updating it.
