Hi, my name is Hayley and I'm a geography teacher at Bo'ness Academy.
And I wanted to get involved with the Climate Ready Classrooms to work with a group of pupils to ensure that they are given the right information about how they can call back climate change and reduce our own carbon footprint.
So what we learned during their Climate Ready Classrooms was how as we as a whole school community can make changes together to help combat climate change and reduce our carbon footprint, such as having meat free days in the cafeteria, and reducing our cup use in our own hotshots cafe.
I think Climate Ready Classrooms workshops are really important because there's so much information just now in media and social media about climate change and it's good to actually be able to tell the pupils their facts, and related to things that they can actually do in their everyday lives.
The pupils have said that they really enjoyed their Climate Ready Classrooms. They all seem very engaged in the activities that was going on, and they said that they would encourage other peoples to be involved with in the future.
So what I think new pupils got out of the Climate Ready Classrooms was that they were able to make changes in their own lives to reduce their carbon footprint. So that was things such as switching their TVs off all night, not leaving their computers on standby, and not charging their mobile phones during the night.
I would recommend that other teachers get involved with Climate Ready Classrooms as it's a really engagement day for the pupils and their activities are really hands on, and they can learn a lot from their own carbon footprint, and it's just a really fun activity to do.
