Newton Beach, Millport

North Ayrshire

A small shingle/sandy beach which lies below the promenade in the centre of Millport, the only town on the isle of Cumbrae. A lovely gently sloping beach for the whole family to enjoy. The beach has intertidal pools and stunning views of the Eileans in the bay, Little Cumbrae and the Clyde Estuary. It is located a short walk from the other beach in Millport, Kames Bay – a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Major flood prevention works for Newton and Kames bay have now been completed. These works were carried out to improve the safety and security of the island’s residents against increased coastal flooding threats.

Getting There

The beach is in the centre of Millport, on the Island Cycle Route (the isle of Cumbrae is well known as a cycle friendly island), located opposite Garrison House. All the facilities of an island town are here. The 10 minute ferry crossing is taken from Largs, a regular bus service meets every ferry, transporting passengers to and from Millport.
