In 2024, The Black Door Shop was recognised by Keep Scotland Beautiful with a Runner Up Certificate of the Scottish level of the Sustainable Gardening Award, one of five new RHS Community Awards.
At The Black Door Shop their ethos is to reduce waste and work to bring the area greener. They continue to collect litter every Saturday, cleaning up their locality - over 500 bags of litter annually. They divert, through household donations, over 75 tons of material from landfill for second users use. They develop their garden area to reflect natural growth to enhance use by wildlife etc. They are a happy team and welcome new volunteers.
In 2023, the group received a Certificate of Recognition in the NatureScot It's Your Neighbourhood Pollinator Friendly Award for the Orchardhill Thursday Gardeners.
