Flying start for #SpringCleanScotland
26 March 2026
This year's #SpringCleanScotland has started with a bang as week one ends with more than 10,000 registrations.
We've just surpassed 14,000 people signed up to help keep Scotland beautiful at almost 500 events across the country.
The campaign was launched on 13 March at the Glasgow Science Centre where we unveiled our wrapped CityLink bus and took part in a litter pick in the surrounding area, collecting 15 bags of litter.
We were in Arrochar the following day for another clean up event where 155kg of litter was collected.
On Wednesday 18 March we joined Holytown Environmental Group where 18 volunteers collected 23 bags of litter and various bulk items.
Thursday saw us join up with two events - a litter pick with KFC staff in Glasgow while staff from our hub joined forces with Sunbelt, Target and Stirling Council to collect litter in the Raploch, removing 18 bags.
Week one ended with a sunny litter pick in Letham, organised by Jim Fairlie MSP, where we joined members of the local community and primary school pupils to collect 182kg of litter.
Rachael Pirie, our Campaigns Support Officer, said: "Week one of this year's Spring Clean has been brilliant with such a variety of activity across the country.
"While I've had lots of fun out and about joining various events, everyone at Keep Scotland Beautiful has been so inspired by all the activity we've been seeing on social media.
"We still have lots of time for you to get involved and help us make this another fantastic Spring Clean - please visit our map to find an event near you or register your own. Every piece of litter collected and every bag filled makes a huge difference."
#SpringCleanScotland is the country's largest mass litter picking event. But with with nine in ten people stating Scotland has a litter problem, we know that addressing litter through prevention, behaviour change and enforcement must rise up the political priority list, preventing further pollution of our environment.
We're calling for more action to keep Scotland beautiful now and in the future. You can read our priorities for the next Scottish Parliament here.
