Keeping the focus on tackling litter as part of the national strategy
21 October 2025
We have today (21 October 2025) welcomed the publication by the Scottish Government of the National Litter & Flytipping Strategy Year 2 Update and Year 3 Action Plan.
As a key delivery partner for the National Litter and Flytipping Strategy since it was launched two years ago, we continue to deliver a broad range of interventions and activities as part of the annual action plan - including the development of the Community Litter Hub, testing local roadside litter campaigns, leading national discussions on data collection, looking at how we can improve the analysis and utilisation of data, and initiating research and partnership projects with to ensure future targeted actions to tackle litter are as impactful as possible.
Paul Wallace, our Head of Operations commented, “Evidence from our surveys, audits and Scottish Litter Survey show that we need greater and more sustained action, along with significant funding, if we are to effectively address our national litter challenge. Over the past two years we have worked in collaboration with many stakeholders to ensure that we stay focused on what matters to them, and to ensure that our support of communities and local authorities remains relevant, inspiring and helpful.
“We remain committed to delivering action and inspiring behaviour change across all sectors to tackle litter and are proud to have played a very hands-on role to support the ambition of the National Litter and Flytipping Strategy to date. We know that far more needs to be done, and our priority for the third year of the strategy is to maintain momentum, build on the work of from previous years, and at the same time drive forward the policy and strategies needed, based on the data we have collected and processed, to ensure that Scotland is able to tackle litter, an issue that causes such embarrassment to people living in littered communities.”
