Organisations team up for Carbon Literacy Action Day

13 November 2025

Staff at ScottishPower have now been certified Carbon Literate as part of Carbon Literacy Action Day.

We recently held a training course for ScottishPower where seven employees took part and completed the Carbon Literacy training. The ScottishPower employees join thousands across the world as they become Carbon Literate on the fifth annual Carbon Literacy Action Day.

The annual International Carbon Literacy Action Day, hosted by the Carbon Literacy Project, is the world’s largest climate education and action training event of its kind. This year’s event took place on Thursday 13 November 2025, coinciding with the UN COP30 Climate Change Conference.

We are the official partner in Scotland for the award-winning Carbon Literacy Project, the only Carbon Literate Training Organisation in Scotland, and the only Scottish organisation to have attained Platinum Carbon Literate Organisation status. The charity has trained more than 6,000 people to be Carbon Literate, with the latest ScottishPower cohorts joining that list.

Katie Murray, our Development Manager, said: “Carbon Literacy Action Day is a monumental day in the calendar and one we are proud to support in our efforts to combat climate change.

“We are so proud of our partnership with the Carbon Literacy Project and it is wonderful to have ScottishPower participate in this training course and celebrate the day together with us.

“Keep Scotland Beautiful is determined to support Scotland’s net zero journey and I encourage any organisation, group or individual who wishes to participate in our training or learn more about what actions they can take to play their part to get in touch with us.”

Dr. Sam Gardner, Head of Climate Change & Sustainable Development at ScottishPower, said:  "We’re proud to take part in Carbon Literacy Day.  As a leader in the UK’s green energy transition, we know that delivering a net zero future starts with action.  Carbon Literacy equips our people with the knowledge and confidence to make climate-conscious decisions every day.  Partnering with Keep Scotland Beautiful and the Carbon Literacy Project reinforces our commitment to driving change for a better future for all.”

Dave Coleman, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Carbon Literacy Project, said: “Carbon Literacy is not about creating a future ‘slightly less bad than it could be’, it’s about creating a future that is secure, inspiring, and actually better than the recent past. Carbon Literacy is a unique approach to dealing with climate change: not-for-profit, co-developed and immediately relevant to participants, it is scalable and adaptable, and tested and proven in use by thousands of organisations and tens of thousands of people. Carbon Literacy Action Day (CLAD) brings us all together, acting to deliver immediate solutions to the climate crisis, and not just surviving, but thriving, now and in the future. Carbon Literacy – “climate action where you are”.”

We have a range of training courses available, including quarterly courses, sector-based courses and courses for individuals.
