#SpringCleanScotland success across the country
04 June 2025
We're delighted to share the 2025 #SpringCleanScotland report, capturing our collective efforts to keep Scotland beautiful.
This year's campaign lasted four weeks and we were blown away by your support, with more than 34,027 people taking part including over 18,000 young people.
Together we collected 331 tonnes of litter at 2,763 events across every local authority in Scotland.
This year we also awarded a number of #SpringCleanScotland Heroes Awards to those who have went above and beyond in their support for this year's Spring Clean.
Renfrewshire Council received an award for being the local authority with the highest number of litter picks recorded over the population of the area.
Other receivers of the awards include Green Tangerine, FARE Community Allotment, Fife Street Champions, East Haven Together, West Lothian Litter Pickers, Irvine Clean Up Crew, Shetland Amenity Trust and Dumfries and Galloway's Darren Burns.
The Litter League also returned for a third successive year and was won by B-Dale Explorer Scouts in West Lothian, with 25 children collecting 114 bags of litter.
The regional Litter League winners are:
-
Glasgow and Strathclyde - Hilltop Primary School P7a (North Lanarkshire)
-
Aberdeen and NE - Methlick School (Aberdeenshire)
-
Edinburgh and Lothians – Falla Hill Primary School (West Lothian)
-
Highlands and Islands – Laxdale Primary School (Western Isles)

Barry Fisher, our Chief Executive, said: “We know there is a litter emergency in Scotland, but we also know there are people in every community across the country who are determined to take action and deal with the issue.
“Spring Clean Scotland gives us an opportunity to spearhead a collective effort to make a noticeable difference, inspiring as many people as possible to help clean up Scotland.
“I’m so impressed to see that more than half of our volunteers this year were young people. It’s so inspiring to see the younger generation already taking notice and action of the litter issue in their communities. Congratulations to the B-Dale Explorer Scouts for winning this year's Litter League!
“A huge part of Spring Clean is recognising those who have taken part, told us about their activities and helped us understand the depth of the problem we’re facing. But we also know that there are thousands more who don’t share their efforts and have made litter picking part of their daily life.
“To everyone who has played a part, however big or small, thank you for keeping Scotland beautiful.”

#SpringCleanScotland is one of our activities which supports the objectives of the Scottish Government’s National Litter and Flytipping Strategy and the Marine Litter Strategy.
We have a Community Litter eLearning module to help people learn about littering issues in Scotland and how to investigate a first step to tackle litter in communities. A certificate of achievement will be received after completing the 90 minute course. Find out more here.
The Community Litter Hub also has a number of resources for people looking to tackle the litter emergency.
