More Eco-Schools celebration visits in May and June
23 June 2025
Our 30th anniversary celebrations of the international Eco-Schools and Young Reporters for the Environment programmes continued with more visits to schools during May and June.
We kickstarted the month of May with a visit to the Royal School of Dunkeld in Perth and Kinross where we presented the school with their 11th Green Flag - the first in Scotland to achieve this - alongside the First Minister John Swinney.
Nicola Davidson, our Education and Learning Officer, then visited St Mark's Primary School in East Renfrewshire to present them with their 11th Green Flag before a trip to Dalry Primary School in North Ayrshire to present them with a commendation for community work.
The last visit of the month was completed by Jonathan Angell, our Gaelic Education and Learning Officer, who presented Highland school Mallaig Primary School with a commendation for litter and waste.
We then had two visits in June, both by Nicola Davidson, who visited Ferryden Primary School and Webster's High School, both in Angus, to present them with commendations for Learning for Sustainability and community work.
Barry Fisher, our Chief Executive, commented: “This year we celebrate 30 years of schools making an environmental difference through Eco-Schools.
“It’s great that we were able to visit these schools to present a certificate of achievement and to hear from the children, young people and educators about their inspiring action and commitment to improving our environment.
"I'd like to say an extra special congratulations to both Royal School of Dunkeld and St Mark's Primary School for achieving their 11th Green Flags.
“For the past 30 years we have loved hearing about the remarkable achievements of our young people and the development of learning for sustainability across the world, and we look forward to continuing to provide support through our Climate Action Schools framework.”
Eco-Schools is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world operated internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and delivered by Keep Scotland Beautiful. It was launched in the UK four nations, Denmark and Germany in 1994 with Scotland.
