Webinars set to celebrate Highland Community Waste Partnership
17 February 2025
A series of webinars are set to take place next month to showcase the work of the Highland Community Waste Partnership as the project comes to a close and partners look to the future.
Over the past three years, the partnership, led and driven by eight community groups across the Highlands and coordinated by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful, has worked to reduce waste and promote more sustainable consumption across the region.
Recent polling highlighted that 87% of people are concerned about the amount of products we buy and throw away while 71% are worried about climate change.
In addition, more than half of people in the Highlands (57%) said they would like to learn more about ways to reduce their environmental impact, showing that there is an appetite for this work.
To reflect on the progress and learnings of the partnership, the webinar series will kick off on 17 March and showcase key areas of activity including partnership working, food waste and composting, share and repair, and single-use items and packaging.
Georgina Massouraki, Highland Community Waste Partnership Coordinator, said: “Over the past three years we have achieved and learned so much so it will be great to bring everyone together to reflect on the impact we have had in the Highlands and share this with others working in this space.
“Partnership working, sharing ideas and learning together has been critical and while the partnership is coming to an end, it is imperative that we continue its legacy and ensure future work and endeavors are built upon and strengthened by what we have learned.
“Community climate action is a vital part of Scotland’s net zero journey and there’s still lots to do. I hope everyone who is interested in reducing waste and consumption attends, be it individuals, community groups, businesses or other stakeholders and will hopefully be inspired to continue the legacy of the Highland Community Waste Partnership.
“The partnership may be coming to an end but what we have achieved will be a foundation for future work and live on through these wonderful community groups who have played such a vital role in making it this huge success.”
The webinars are free to attend. Anyone from across Scotland who is interested can sign up now.
