New trustees strengthen your charity for Scotland’s environment

20 August 2025

We are pleased to announce the appointment of two new Charity Trustees to strengthen our work to inspire action for our environment.

Announcing the appointment of the new Charity Trustees Tom Brock, OBE, Chair of the Board said: “I’m delighted to be able to welcome two new trustees, both bringing exciting new perspectives and skills to the board.

“It is a challenging and important time for our charity and for Scotland’s environment, but with these individuals comes an excellent opportunity for us to strengthen what we do.  Both have a real passion and commitment to support what we want to achieve, and I have no doubt, will be an important asset to us as we work with individuals, communities and partners throughout the country to combat climate change, tackle litter and waste, restore nature and biodiversity, deliver environmental education and enhance the places we all care about, right across Scotland.”

Joining the Board of Charity Trustees on 20 August 2025 are Karen Kerr and Tony McDaid.

Karen brings experience from the Fast Moving Consumer Goods industry where she has developed expertise in transformation, strategic development and governance.  She currently works in the food sector.  Her career has demonstrated to her how business transformation and supply chain innovation can drive meaningful environmental sustainability and how smart systems like Deposit Return Schemes can turn consumption patterns into positive environmental outcomes for Scotland.

Following her appointment she commented, “Across my career, I've seen how smart policy and business collaboration create real environmental impact. As a trustee, I want to bring my experience to help Keep Scotland Beautiful scale practical solutions. Protecting Scotland's landscapes will ensure that the places that define us remain viable for future generations.”

Tony is the current Chief Executive of Caledonia Gladiators Basketball, Scotland’s professional basketball franchise. Previously, he worked in education where his roles included Principal Teacher of Physical Education, Depute Head Teacher, Head teacher, Head of Service for South Lanarkshire Council and then Executive Director of Education.

In his role as Executive Director of Education, Tony was responsible for the delivery of education for over fifty-five thousand children and young people and has seen first hand the role that the Climate Action Schools and Eco-Schools programmes have had in supporting Learning for Sustainability.

Tony commented, “I’m delighted to have been appointed a Trustee of Keep Scotland Beautiful. I’m well aware of the significant impact the charity continues to make - supporting the environment and helping ensure communities can live in, visit, and enjoy everything Scotland has to offer.

“With a lifelong background in education and now working in professional sport, I’ve gained valuable insight and experience in navigating the ongoing challenges faced by charities and public bodies. I also recognise the importance of ensuring progress on the issues that matter most to all of us.

“I’ve seen first-hand the positive impact Keep Scotland Beautiful has had on children and young people through its work in schools, youth learning, and the wider community. I’m passionate about ensuring this remains a central part of what we do.”
