Community celebration event in Cumbernauld
22 March 2024
Fifty people representing 14 community groups from across Lanarkshire and Falkirk joined us at a celebration and networking event on 22 March at the village community hall in Cumbernauld.
The event showcased our cleaning, greening and growing activities with speakers from community groups, including Tidy Clean and Green, Hope Community Garden, Polmont, Falkirk High School and Ashton School sharing their experiences and achievements from the last year.
Monica Lennon MSP attended the event as guest speaker and stayed to present awards, alongside our CEO Barry Fisher, to those who had achieved success in the Our Heritage, Our Future, It’s Your Neighbourhood and Beautiful Scotland activities we run.
Ms Lennon said: “It was a pleasure to attend this uplifting Keep Scotland Beautiful event.
“Local volunteers make our communities stronger, and it was wonderful to see the efforts and achievements of so many individuals and groups across Lanarkshire and Falkirk recognised.
“Litter and fly tipping are hugely challenging issues, and we need bold solutions.
“By showcasing the hard work, commitment and impact of volunteers, Keep Scotland Beautiful has shone a deserving spotlight on the community heroes standing up for our environment and putting pride back into our towns and villages.”
Barry Fisher our Chief Executive, said: “It was really inspiring to hear from so many people about the work that they are doing to keep their parts of Scotland beautiful, for those that live there, for those that visit and for the nature and biodiversity we share our country with.
"I was particularly heartened to hear from the young people from Falkirk High School and to see lots of new connections being made. I’d encourage others working to clean and green their communities to reach out and sign up to become part of our Climate and Nature Friendly Communities Network."
An optional walking tour around the It’s Your Neighbourhood community groups in Cumbernauld Village followed the event and all weathers were experienced - from blue sky to heavy rain and rainbows.
You can register to join It's Your Neighbourhood or Beautiful Scotland as part of our Climate and Nature Friendly Communities Network to become part of our wide family of communities doing positive things for the places they love.
