New Bike Jumble Sale and Clothes Swap Events coming to Inverness.

19 September 2023

Velocity Cafe & Bicycle Workshop, as part of the Highland Community Waste Partnership, have two exciting community events coming up at the Spectrum Centre in Inverness. They are running a Bike Jumble Sale on Saturday 23rd September as well as a Clothing Swap on Saturday 7th October.

Do you have bikes, parts, or tools that could be passed on to others and put to good use? Are you looking for parts to complete a project or repair a bike? The Bike Jumble Sale is an event dedicated to the exchange of used parts with the aim of keeping usable products in circulation rather than lying unused in sheds and garages or ending up in landfill.

You can sign up to be a stallholder via Eventbrite, or turn up as a customer on the day. If you would prefer to donate some items to the Bike Jumble Sale, please get in touch via email activetravelhub@velocitylove.co.uk to arrange a drop off time.

The Bike Jumble Sale is running as part of the Highlands & Islands Climate Festival. The Highlands and Islands Climate Festival takes place over the whole of September 2023 and is a celebration of localism and community engagement with a focus on climate action. Buying, selling, and sharing used parts, items and equipment not only keeps them out of landfill, but also reduces the need to produce new products in the first place.

The Clothing Swap is a collaborative event with the Highland Community Waste Partnership and The Highland Council Tenant Participation Team. Are you ready to have a clear out, save cash and say no to fast fashion!? Would you love to refresh your wardrobe and get some fabulous pre-loved clothes?

This FREE clothing swap is for all sizes of women's, men's, and children's clothes, shoes and accessories. With Halloween coming up soon, feel free to swap costumes too. The Clothing Swap will also have Professional Stylist Amanda Latham along to provide expert styling advice to attendees on the day!

The FREE Clothing Swap will be a fabulous way to save money, meet like-minded people and walk away with a refreshed wardrobe. There is a maximum of 15 items per person, you can drop off items from 10am, and the swap starts at 11am.

They are also looking for volunteers to help with sorting clothes by size, if you are interested please email HCWP@velocitylove.co.uk.

The Clothing Swap is running as part of Sustainable Fashion Week (25th September to 8th October) which is working for a greener, cleaner and fairer fashion industry.

Please ensure that all items or clothing are in a good/clean condition that you would expect to receive them yourself!

Isabel McLeish, HCWP Project Officer from Velocity Café & Bicycle Workshop said, “We are really looking forward to hosting these upcoming sharing and swapping events to promote a circular economy!”

Matt Lafferty, Project Officer from Velocity Café & Bicycle Workshop said, “Swapping and selling unwanted or unneeded stuff is a great way to reduce waste and give items a new lease of life. These events are also a great chance for like-minded folk to get together and share stories as well as goods.”
