Upstream Battle® comes to the Kelvin at the Kibble exhibition

26 April 2022

The annual exhibition last took place in 2019 and brings together groups and organisations who are active in taking action to protect the River Kelvin.  With the River Kelvin being a tributary to the River Clyde, local group Friends of the River Kelvin joined Upstream Battle® on the Clyde as an Anchor Group in 2018. Our exhibit will include citizen science data gathered from litter surveys carried out by the group, which identified that plastic and sewage related litter were the most commonly littered items near to the River Kelvin.

We are also sharing details of the Upstream Battle® marine litter art competition which is one of the ways we seek to raise awareness on the issue of marine litter.  Open to children up to Primary 7 age, the competition challenges children to research the problem of ‘source to sea’ marine litter and share their findings through an artistic medium such as a models, sculptures, photographs, video or poetry.   Visitors to our Upstream Battle® exhibition are encouraged to record in a thought bubble what action they will take to reduce ‘source to sea’ marine litter and share them on social media (@KSBScotland #UpstreamBattle).  Other groups who are exhibiting include Friends of Glasgow Botanic Gardens, RSPB, Friends of Earth Glasgow, Froglife, The Conservation Volunteers and Glasgow Natural History Society.
