The allotment is more than a garden—it’s a classroom without walls for over 70 children who visit weekly. Every visit is packed with hands-on learning and joyful exploration: • Nature crafting and painting with petals • Bug hunting and birdwatching • Singing nature songs with actions • Building bug hotels and bird feeders from recycled materials • Messy play in the mud kitchen—fizzy mud pies and petal soup! • Litter picking. All activities are aligned with the Curriculum for Excellence, blending education with outdoor play and wellness to experience the full cycle of nature—from sowing seeds to harvesting crops.
In 2023, FARE Lochend Community Allotment were joint winners in the Keep Scotland Beautiful Involving Children and Young People Award, received Certificates of Recognition in the Growing Communities Award and the NatureScot It's Your Neighbourhood Pollinator Friendly Award, and won our 2023 Health and Wellbeing theme public vote.
