The Patons of Dunfermline

Fife

The group’s aim is to restore the woodland garden of Wooers' Alley in Dunfermline, which inspired Sir Joseph Noël Paton's fairy paintings. Noël Paton was Queen Victoria's Painter for Scotland in the 19th century. He was famous for his extraordinary fairy paintings (now in the National Gallery of Scotland), which he painted while he was living at Wooers' Alley. Wooers’ Alley has become completely overgrown and littered over recent decades. The group’s volunteers are currently transforming it back to its former glory as a public garden, so it can once again inspire the community of Dunfermline, just as it inspired Noël Paton.
