The Black Door Shop

The project collects pre-used household items and clothes - over 100 tons per year – and upgrades pre-used laptops, to the tune of around 90 per year. They supply these items through other charities, health workers, social workers or teachers to service users in need. They work with volunteers of all ages and also collect litter every Saturday, with 3 teams out collecting around 400 bags per year. Their ethos is simple - reuse rather than recycle. They are always looking for volunteers - an hour of anyone’s time is so valuable.

In 2024, The Black Door Shop was recognised by Keep Scotland Beautiful with a Runner Up Certificate of the Scottish level of the Sustainable Gardening Award, one of five new RHS Community Awards.

In 2023, the group received a Certificate of Recognition in the NatureScot It's Your Neighbourhood Pollinator Friendly Award for the Orchardhill Thursday Gardeners.
