Friends of Starbank Park

Edinburgh City

2024 Certificates
Level 5 - Outstanding
Certificate of Distinction

The Friend’s volunteers maintain the restored Starbank Park, gardening twice a week, working alongside the City of Edinburgh Council. The aim is to encourage the planting of more pollinators, and a naturalising spring swathe was established in 2024.

They encourage composting as much garden waste as possible by recently heightening their bins. The group’s Cherry Blossom Picnic, Halloween Pumpkin Trail and Christmas Wreathe Making are some of the community events which are always very popular throughout the year. Workshops on gardening techniques are run to improve volunteers' skills and knowledge of gardening, and these are open to the general public.

In 2021, Friends of Starbank Park won 2nd prize in the NatureScot Pollinator Friendly Award.
