As part of her work experience at Keep Scotland Beautiful, Isabella Cox became the first person to complete our Community Litter eLearning Module.
Here she tells us why she chose to do her work experience with us, what she thought of the course and why you should find out more and sign yourself up.
You may have heard about Keep Scotland Beautiful through its multiple different programmes that are incredible for everyone. Although, I actually first heard about them through their work at my school, Stirling high school and its re-achievement of the Eco-school’s green flag, where the school’s dedication to becoming even more sustainable is evident.
I decided to spend my three days of work experience at Keep Scotland Beautiful not just for those reasons above but also because of the amazing impact its already had on Scotland for years and its continuous drive to keep Scotland as beautiful as it deserves to be.
The work environment is extremely friendly and welcoming and during my time there I completed the new community litter eLearning module. This online module helps you to explore Scotland’s litter emergency and identify a first step to tackle litter in your community.
The Litter online module contained a set of slides that were cleverly narrated to read through the information on each page. Interactive questions were asked after every few new pieces of information to test your knowledge. Myth busters can also be seen within this course, and they started challenging my own preconceived views on littering and fly- tipping. For example, I had believed that adding more bins around the country would reduce the amount of litter and waste but no, that’s a lie.
All in all, the course wasn’t at all time consuming, and I finished within two hours wanting to dive even deeper into what more I could do for my community. Afterwards, I brought it up with family and close friends because I do feel much more aware than before completing the course. I would also like to continue to encourage anyone to have a go, take part and achieve not just the certificate but to become more aware and benefit from it just like I did.
But, even if you are right at the beginning and looking to start your journey to help the environment in your local community, this course provides a perfect and understandable entrance into that world.
