COMMITTEE ON CLIMATE CHANGE SAY UK POLICIES NEED STRENGTHENING TO MEET CARBON TARGETS

On 15 July, the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) published its sixth statutory report to Parliament, assessing the UK government’s progress towards meeting carbon budgets. The report states that, whilst the first carbon budget (2008-2012) has been met, and progress made on development and implementation of some policies, the main conclusion is that strengthening of policies will be needed to meet future budgets. The report also contains a chapter summarising progress made in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on meeting climate change targets.
