We are currently looking for Volunteer Green Flag Award Scheme Judges to provide a vital link between us and applicants to the Green Flag Award programme. Judges carry out desk based and site visit assessments or conduct mystery shop visits of all application sites annually, providing support, encouragement and writing reports for park managers.
Green Flag Award Scheme is the recognised international standard for parks and green spaces. It is a benchmark against which the quality of freely accessible parks and green spaces can be measured and demonstrates that the park or green space is environmental sound, well used, managed and held in high regard.
The Scheme is managed by Keep Britain Tidy on behalf of the UK Government Department for Levelling up, Housing and Communities.
Keep Scotland Beautiful delivers the Green Flag Award in Scotland. With support and training from us Volunteer Judges are essential to the effective operation of the scheme and responsible for visiting applicants and providing guidance and reports
Applications are sought from volunteers who want to support our aim to inspire environmental action to keep Scotland clean, green and sustainable. Ideally volunteers will have a background in nature conservation, ecology, parks and landscape management, community engagement, environmental managing, horticulture or related disciplines. They are independent arbiters of the scheme providing a crucial link between the applicant and managers of the scheme. It is essential that volunteers are able to communicate effectively to support and encourage applicants.
All applicants will be expected to attend Green Flag Judges Training on 18/19 May 2026 in Edinburgh.
The role is very rewarding, and you’ll get to visit a minimum of two award parks where you will see inspiring projects, meet like minded people and be able to share good practice.
