Forgandenny Primary School

Project title: Free the sea of litter from you and me!

We carried out a whole school litter pick. Primary 6& 7 focussed on the woodland nearby our school, Primary 3, 4 & 5 focussed on the playground area, Primary 1 & 2 focussed on the local park. We recorded the litter we collected and compared it to previous litter picks. The source appeared to be mostly food items.

The litter had reduced considerably from our last litter pick so the learning we have been doing around the climate crisis has clearly been sinking in. Pupils at Forgandenny are very much on board with the refuse/reduce/reuse/recycle and are spreading the word at home.

We will continue with our zero-tolerance attitude towards littering at school, in our community and at home. As a result of taking part in the project. pupils are now more aware of the damage that even the tiniest pieces of litter can cause. They are seeing the bigger picture – not only does littering affect the wildlife in our playground, but it also affects the sea creatures.

We will promote our video of the artwork on our school social media channels and re-iterate that the litter used in the video was all collected from our local community to ensure that everyone gets the message.
