The Upstream Battle Marine Litter Art Competition is open!
We are asking young people across the West Partnership to participate in our Marine Litter Art Competition. We would like participants to research the ‘source to sea’ pathway of marine litter and explore how litter in their community could end up as marine litter in the sea. Following their investigations, we invite participants to represent their thoughts through an artistic medium, such as models, sculptures, photographs, video or poetry. The more imaginative, the better!
We have provided all the information you need to get involved; a short video presentation introducing the topic of Source to Sea litter and the competition, a guidance document for teachers and community leaders and a flyer that can be printed and displayed in your community to promote the competition. Our Education and Learning Officer will be visiting each of the West Partnership authorities throughout the competition running period. If your class would like to take part in an engagement activity, such as a litter pick or Q&A, please complete a short form.
Successful entrants will be showcased across our social media channels, on our website and excitingly, in an Upstream Battle exhibition at the end of term. Not only is the project an ideal opportunity for pupils to engage in learning outside the classroom, but clear connections can also be found across the Curriculum for Excellence Experiences and Outcomes and STEM learning. Schools undertaking their Eco-Schools journey may also wish to undertake the project as part of their work on the programme's Litter and Waste Topic.
The competition is open to early years, primary and additional supports needs establishments, as well as uniform or community groups working with this age group in the West Partnership areas of: Glasgow, Inverclyde, North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.
Deadline for submissions is 5pm Wednesday 1st June 2022.
To submit your entry, please send a high-resolution photo to email@example.com and include a short written report - using the template provided - and any other supporting materials.
