Green Flag Award Judge

Salary: Voluntary (expenses only)

Based in: Scotland

Further information: Green Flag Award

Green Flag Award parks and green spaces are assessed by a network of volunteers who support our aim to make Scotland clean and green, today and tomorrow. All volunteers must have a professional approach to their role and the ability to demonstrate a good breadth of knowledge of the management of parks and green spaces.

We are responsible for managing and administrating the Green Flag Award scheme in Scotland. This award is the nationally recognised benchmark for quality parks and greenspaces, run in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy, Keep Wales Tidy and Tidy Northern Ireland. The scheme is reliant on its team of dedicated volunteer judges to assess sites and in return offers a unique opportunity for professional development and the sharing of expertise and good practice.

As well as the knowledge of the management of parks and green spaces, volunteers must have excellent communication skills and a good understanding of local authority and / or community group organisation and operation. Prior to becoming a Green Flag Award judge, volunteers must attend a two-day training course and will initially be paired with a more experienced judge

Volunteers are generally asked to commit to undertake between two and six assessments between April and September. Some travel will be involved.
