Beautiful Scotland Judge
Salary: Voluntary (expenses only)
Based in: Scotland
Further information: Beautiful Scotland
We are responsible for managing and administrating a major environmental campaign in Scotland called Beautiful Scotland. Entrants from across Scotland are judged on three core pillars of activity: horticultural achievement; environmental responsibility; and community participation, before being presented with awards in the autumn to recognise their sustained efforts throughout the year.
Scotland forms a nation of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Bloom campaign and a number of category winners of Beautiful Scotland are nominated to represent our country at the UK level the following year.
We currently have a number of opportunities for Volunteer Judges to provide a vital link between Keep Scotland Beautiful and the entrant communities which register with Beautiful Scotland.
With support and training from Keep Scotland Beautiful, Volunteer Judges are responsible for supporting the judging process, providing invaluable constructive guidance to the entrants, and acting as an ambassador for the campaign.
Applications are sought from volunteers who want to support our aim to make Scotland clean and green, today and tomorrow. Ideally, our volunteers will have a keen interest in horticulture, previous experience of working with community groups, and be able to communicate effectively to support participating entrants.
In 2018, volunteers are asked to commit to attend a day of training (end June – date and location TBC), a debriefing session in Stirling (15 August), and undertake a minimum of two days judging between 30 July and 12 August.
Some travel will be involved.
