Heritage and climate skills

Heritage and climate skills !!!!

"The historic environment is one of our most precious assets. It contributes to our economy, to our cultural identity and to our sense of place. Without it, Scotland wouldn’t be Scotland.

Our historic environment supports more than 60,000 jobs – 2.5% of Scotland’s total employment. It contributes £2.3 billion to the national gross value added (GVA). There is tourism, obviously, but also jobs and work for local businesses in its care and restoration." - Historic Environment Scotland.

The Our Heritage, Our Future team know how important Scotland's heritage is on a national scale and that it is crucial to support community groups to explore, record and protect their heritage at a local level.

We can work with your community group to help to develop a range of heritage and climate skills. Your group doesn’t need to have an existing heritage focus to take part and you can work towards obtaining formal accreditation or get involved just for fun!

Explore the units we provide by clicking on the titles below. You will find a description of each unit and examples of community groups who have already completed the training.

Learners will receive a certificate for each unit they complete and can work towards a full award to achieve a Certificate in Cultural Heritage. This qualification aims to provide people with a general understanding of the heritage sector in Scotland and develop specific heritage-related skills.

The units have been accredited by Qualifications Scotland as SCQF level 5/6; they are accessible to all aged 16 and over and no previous knowledge or experience is required.
