In 2024, The Black Door Shop was recognised by Keep Scotland Beautiful with a Runner Up Certificate of the Scottish level of the Sustainable Gardening Award, one of five new RHS Community Awards.
In 2023, the group received a Certificate of Recognition in the NatureScot It's Your Neighbourhood Pollinator Friendly Award for the Orchardhill Thursday Gardeners.
The gardens are being developed into a welcoming place for birds and insects by their keen group of volunteers.
Donations of clothes and household items are sorted by our volunteers and diverted to second user rather than landfill.
Volunteers are out each week collecting litter, unblocking drains and keeping the streets clean.
They repair and upgrade laptops on one side, and on the other they have tools that allow their volunteers to work with wood and make or repair items.
They have pop-up life learning and kitchen areas where skills are shared.
